  • DAY 357: Jathiyah 22-37

For Allah created the heavens and the earth for a purpose, so that every soul may be paid back for what it has committed. And none will be wronged. So, have you seen him who has taken his desires as his god, and Allah has let him go astray, despite having knowledge, and has sealed his ear and his heart, and put a cover on his eye? Now who will guide him after Allah? Still, do you not take lesson? And they argue, “There is nothing beyond our worldly life. We die; others are born. And nothing destroys us but ˹the passage of˺ time.” Yet they have no knowledge ˹in support˺ of this ˹claim˺. They only speculate. And whenever Our clear revelations are recited to them, their only argument is to say: “Bring our forefathers back, if what you say is true!” Say, “Allah gives you life, then makes you die, then He will assemble you on the Day of Judgement in which there is no doubt, but most of the people do not know. “ To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. The day the Hour will take place, it will be the day in which the adherents of falsehood shall lose, And you will see every faith-community on its knees. Every community will be summoned to its record ˹of deeds˺. ˹They all will be told,˺ “This Day you will be rewarded for what you used to do. This record of Ours speaks the truth about you. Indeed, We always had your deeds recorded ˹by the angels˺.” As for those who believed and did good, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is ˹truly˺ the absolute triumph. And as for those who disbelieved, ˹they will be told,˺ “Were My revelations not recited to you, yet you acted arrogantly and were a wicked people? And whenever it was said ˹to you˺, ‘Surely Allah’s promise ˹of judgment˺ is true and there is no doubt about the Hour,’ you said ˹mockingly˺, ‘We do not know what the Hour is! We think it is no more than speculation, and we are not convinced ˹that it will ever come˺.’” And the evil ˹consequences˺ of their deeds will unfold before them, and they will be overwhelmed by what they used to ridicule. It will be said, “This Day We will neglect you as you neglected the meeting of this Day of yours! Your home will be the Fire, and you will have no helpers. This is because you made a mockery of Allah’s revelations, and were deluded by ˹your˺ worldly life.” So ˹from˺ that Day ˹on˺ they will not be taken out of the Fire, nor will they be allowed to appease ˹their Lord˺. So all praise is for Allah—Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of all worlds. To Him belongs ˹all˺ Majesty in the heavens and the earth. And He is the Almighty, All-Wise.

Verses 1-21 presented the logical and moral argument for faith and accountability. Verses 22-37 move to a graphic, eschatological climax, depicting the scene of the Day of Judgment itself. The tone becomes more direct, confrontational, and awe-inspiring, moving from invitation and warning to a definitive announcement of what will transpire.
The Deification of Desire: The root of disbelief is making one's own hawā (whim, desire) the ultimate god, leading to moral and intellectual blindness.
        The Certainty of the Record:
The Day of Judgment is not a vague threat but a precise, individual accounting based on a flawless transcript of deeds    The Humiliation of Arrogance: All worldly power, pride, and lineage collapse. Every nation and individual is brought to their knees, forced to confront the truth they denied.
Poetic Justice: The punishment perfectly fits the crime: they are forgotten as they forgot, enveloped by what they ridiculed.
Ultimate Sovereignty: The narrative concludes by reasserting that all praise, dominion, and grandeur belong solely to Allah, the Wise and Powerful, before whom every soul will finally crouch (Al-Jathiyah).

Every soul will be forced to kneel on the Day of Judgment, facing the perfect justice of the record they chose to ignore, with no escape from the consequence of making their own desires their god.
