• By the night when it covers, and the day when it shines! And by ˹the One˺ Who created male and female! Surely the ends you strive for are diverse. As for the one who is charitable, mindful ˹of Allah˺, and ˹firmly˺ believes in the finest reward, We shall smooth his way towards ease.

   A powerful imagery and oaths to draw attention to the duality of creation—night and day, male and female—and the diversity of human efforts. They introduce the themes of righteousness and sin, generosity and selfishness, and the ultimate consequences of one's actions. The righteous, who give in charity, fear Allah, and believe in His reward, are promised ease and success in this life and the Hereafter.
  
  The root ح-س-ن (ḥ-s-n) in Arabic carries a much deeper and more nuanced meaning than simply "beauty" or "goodness." It encompasses the idea of perfection, appropriateness, and excellence in every aspect—doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right amount, and in the right manner.   •  Successful indeed are those who purify themselves, remember the Name of their Lord, and pray. But you (deniers) prefer the life of this world, even though the Hereafter is far better and more lasting. Indeed this is (written) in the earlier divine scripts, the scripts of Ibrāhīm and Mūsā.

   Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High, Who created and ˹perfectly˺ fashioned ˹all˺, who determined their destinies and guided them; and Who brings forth ˹green˺ pasture, then reduces it to dark debris. We will make you recite, then you will not forget, Except what Allāh should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.  We shall show you the easy way. So ˹always˺ remind ˹with the Quran˺—˹even˺ if the reminder is beneficial ˹only to some˺. The one who fears (Allah) will observe the advice, but it will be ignored by the most wicked, who will burn in the greatest Fire, where they will not ˹be able to˺ live or die.

So where are you then heading? It is nothing else but a message of advice for all people, for the benefit of any one from among you who intends to go straight. But you will only wish to do so by the will of God, the Lord of all worlds.

   So I swear by the receding stars, those that run [their courses] and disappear, and the night as it falls , and the day as it breaks! Indeed, this ˹Quran˺ is the Word of ˹Allah delivered by Gabriel,˺ a noble messenger-angel, [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], the one obeyed there,  and trusted. And your fellow man is not insane.

  During the early Meccan period, the Prophet (peace be upon him) faced intense opposition, mockery, and rejection. The disbelievers dismissed the Quran as the ramblings of a madman or the fabrications of a poet. These verses were revealed to:
  
      Reassure the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he was not insane and that his message was true.

   When the sun is put out, and when the stars fall down, and when the mountains are blown away, and when pregnant camels are left untended, and when wild beasts are gathered together, and when the seas are set on fire, And when souls are reunited, and when baby girls, buried alive, are asked for what crime they were put to death, and when the records ˹of deeds˺ are laid open, and when the sky is stripped away, And when Hellfire is set ablaze , And when Paradise is brought near, then everyone will know what he (or she) has put forward.

  Surah At-Takwir (81) is indeed one of the earliest surahs revealed in Mecca, and it is widely considered to be the 6th or 7th surah in the chronological order of revelation.    May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, and he ˹himself˺ perish! Neither his wealth nor ˹worldly˺ gains will benefit him. He will burn in a flaming Fire, and so will his wife as the firewood-carrier, with a palm-fibre rope around her neck.

  Surah Lahab is a microcosm of a larger Quranic theme: the eternal struggle between truth and falsehood, and the ultimate triumph of truth. It warns that those who align themselves with falsehood, oppose Allah’s messengers, and harm believers will face severe consequences in the hereafter.    So, no intercessor’s plea will benefit them now. What is the matter with them? Why do they turn away from the warning, as if they were wild donkeys, fleeing from a lion? In fact, each one of them wishes to be given a ˹personal˺ letter ˹from Allah˺ for all ˹to read˺ . But no! In fact, they do not fear the Hereafter. But, truly this is a reminder. Then whoever wills will take advice from it. But they cannot do so unless Allah wills.  He is the Lord of righteousness and piety, and the Lord of forgiveness.

   But no! By the moon, and by the night when it goes back, and by the morning when it becomes bright, Surely Hell is one of the  greatest things, as a warning to mankind, to those of you who choose to go ahead and those who lag behind.

  •  We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the disbelievers so that  the People of the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase,  and neither  the People of the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the disbelievers, they will say: “What does Allah intend by this example?” Thus Allah lets go astray whomever He wills, and leads to the right path whomever He wills. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (description of Hell) is only a reminder to humanity.

  DAY 28: Muddathir 24-30

   And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. This is no more than the word of a human being. Soon I will burn him in Hell! And what will make you realize what Hell is? It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], and it scorches the skin. It is overseen by nineteen ˹keepers˺ in charge.

   No! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: I will make his fate unbearable, Indeed, he thought and planned ( about what he would say concerning the Qur’ān ) . May he be condemned! How evil was what he planned! May he be condemned even more! How evil was what he put forward! Then he re-contemplated ˹in frustration˺, then he frowned and scowled, then turned his back ˹on the truth˺ and acted arrogantly.

   Then, when the Trumpet is sounded, that day will be a hard day,  for the disbelievers. Leave me alone (to deal) with the one whom I alone have created, and gave him abundant wealth, and sons by his side, making everything easy for him. Then he desires that I should give him more.

       O you, enveloped in garments! Arise and warn ˹all˺, and declare the greatness of your Lord, and keep your clothes clean, and stay away from filth, and do not do a favour (to anyone merely) to seek more (in return). And for the sake of your Lord, be patient.

          Call to Action: The Prophet (and the believers) are commanded to rise and fulfill their missions of warning humanity.
  "O you who are wrapped [in contemplation]! Arise and warn!"
  (from a state of deep reflection or readiness before being called to action. - who have turned inward!-)
  
          Purification: Emphasis is placed on both physical and spiritual cleanliness.
  
          Sincerity: Good deeds should be performed solely for Allah's pleasure, not for worldly gain.
  
          Patience: Steadfastness is essential in the face of adversity.
