• DAY 242: Isra 61-67

   And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who protested, “Should I prostrate to the one You have created from mud?” Adding, “Do you see this one you honoured above me? If you delay my end until the Day of Judgment, I will certainly take hold of his descendants, except for a few.” Allah responded, “Be gone! Whoever of them follows you, Hell will surely be the reward for all of you—an ample reward. And incite whoever you can of them with your voice, mobilize against them all your cavalry and infantry, manipulate them in their wealth and children, and make them promises.” But Satan promises them nothing but delusion. ˹Allah added,˺ “You will truly have no authority over My ˹faithful˺ servants.” And sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian. It is your Lord Who steers the ships for you through the sea, so that you may seek His bounty. Surely He is ever Merciful to you. When you are touched with hardship at sea, you ˹totally˺ forget all ˹the gods˺ you ˹normally˺ invoke, except Him. But when He delivers you ˹safely˺ to shore, you turn away. Humankind is ever ungrateful.

      The Origin of Evil: It started with the arrogance of Iblis.
      The Nature of the Test: Life is a test where Satan is an active tempter, but he has no power over those who sincerely seek Allah's protection.
      Human Vulnerability: Humans are prone to ingratitude and forgetfulness, especially when comfortable.
      Divine Mercy: Despite human flaws and Satan's plots, Allah's mercy is ever-present, from the ships at sea to the granting of respite for repentance. 
      The message for the  believers was clear: the opposition they faced was part of an ancient struggle. Their weapon was to remember Allah, seek His refuge, and never be among the ungrateful who only remember Him in times of distress.  
      This passage connects by moving from what is happening (disbelief, ethics, social rules) to why it is happening (the eternal struggle between divinely guided obedience and satanic-induced arrogance). It completes the picture, giving the believer a profound understanding of their enemy and the nature of their own tests.
   
      The story of Iblis's arrogance and vow to mislead humanity provides the cosmic origin story for the human flaws—ingratitude, haste, and rejection of truth—already described, framing life as a test where our choice to obey God or follow Satan's whispers determines our fate.
