  •  ˹Remember˺ when Allah made a covenant with the prophets, ˹saying,˺ “Now that I have given you the Book and wisdom, if there comes to you a messenger¹ confirming what you have, you must believe in him and support him.” He added, “Do you affirm this covenant and accept this commitment?” They said, “Yes, we do.” Allah said, “Then bear witness, and I too am a Witness.” Whoever turns back after this, they will be the rebellious. Do they desire a way other than Allah’s—knowing that all those in the heavens and the earth submit to His Will, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him they will ˹all˺ be returned? Say, “We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us and in what was revealed to Ibrāhīm, Ismā‘īl, IsHāq , Ya‘qūb and the descendants, and in what has been given to Mūsā, ‘Īsā and the prophets, from their Lord: We do not differentiate between any of them; and to Him we submit ourselves.” Whoever seeks a faith other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. How shall Allah give guidance to a people who disbelieved after they had accepted Faith and testified that the Prophet is true and the clear signs had come to them? Allah does not give guidance to the unjust people. Their reward is that they will be condemned by Allah, the angels, and all of humanity. They will be in Hell forever. Their punishment will not be lightened, nor will they be delayed ˹from it˺. As for those who repent afterwards and mend their ways, then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Indeed, those who disbelieve after having believed then increase in disbelief, their repentance will never be accepted. It is they who are astray. Indeed, if each of those who disbelieve then die as disbelievers were to offer a ransom of enough gold to fill the whole world, it would never be accepted from them. It is they who will suffer a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers.

    This section is a powerful conclusion to the long discourse on prophethood, scripture, and the People of the Book. It begins with the primordial covenant of all prophets, moves to the universal religion God accepts, warns against apostasy after belief, and ends with a stark picture of those who die in disbelief. It's the final seal on everything that came before.
    God is One, revelation is one continuous chain, all prophets from Abraham to Moses to Jesus to Muhammad called to the same submission, worldly power and wealth are illusions, the only proof of loving God is following His messenger, and the consequences of rejecting this after knowing it are absolute—yet the door of sincere repentance remains open until death.
    The previous section called the People of the Book to common ground, corrected their claims about Abraham, and declared no prophet calls to his own worship. Now, verses 81-91 deliver the final, binding argument: your own prophets swore an oath to follow the final messenger. The entire universe submits to God; why are you seeking something else? No path but submission will be accepted. And if you knew the truth and turned away, the consequences are catastrophic—unless you repent and reform right now. It's the conclusion of the case against those who received scripture but deviated from its core message.
    Verses 81-82: The Covenant of the Prophets
    God made every prophet swear: when a confirming messenger comes, believe and support him. They all agreed, God witnessed it. Those who now reject him are the covenant-breakers.
    Verses 83-84: The Only Accepted Religion
    The whole universe submits to God. So declare faith in all prophets without distinction—that's the only straight path.
    Verses 85-87: No Other Religion Accepted
    Anything other than submission to God is rejected. Those who believed then turned away face a curse from God, angels, and all mankind.
    Verses 88-89: The Exception—Sincere Repentance
    Punishment is eternal—unless they genuinely repent and reform. God remains Forgiving, Merciful.
    Verses 90-91: Those Who Die in Disbelief
    Those who sink deeper into disbelief can't repent. Dying a disbeliever means no ransom will save you—painful punishment, zero helpers.
    
    Every prophet swore a covenant to support the final messenger, the entire universe submits to God so no other path will be accepted, those who reject after knowing the truth face a triple curse with no escape—unless they genuinely repent and reform before dying in disbelief, at which point no ransom, not even an earth full of gold, will save them.
