• DAY 452: Ankabut 28-35

  •  And ˹remember˺ when Lot rebuked ˹the men of˺ his people: “You certainly commit a shameful deed that no man has ever done before you. Do you really lust after ˹other˺ men, abuse the travellers, and practice immorality ˹openly˺ in your gatherings?” His people’s only response was to say ˹mockingly˺: “Bring Allah’s punishment upon us, if what you say is true.” Lot prayed, “My Lord! Help me against the people of corruption.” When Our messenger-angels came to Abraham with the good news ˹of the birth of Isaac˺, they said, “We are going to destroy the people of this city ˹of Sodom˺, for its people have persisted in wrongdoing.” He said, “But Lot is there!” They responded, “We know best who is there. We will certainly save him and his family—except his wife, who is one of the doomed.” And when Our messenger-angels came to Lot, he was distressed and worried by their arrival. They reassured ˹him˺, “Do not fear, nor grieve. We will surely deliver you and your family—except your wife, who is one of the doomed. We are certainly bringing down a punishment from heaven upon the people of this city for their rebelliousness.” And We did leave ˹some of˺ its ruins as a clear lesson for people of understanding.

    These verses introduce Prophet Lūṭ (Lot) and the destruction of his people. This is not a new story in the Qur’an, but here it is placed strategically after Noah and Abraham to complete a trilogy of fitna (trial by fire) and divine rescue.
    If Noah represents endurance over centuries, and Abraham represents surviving the fire of persecution and family rejection, then Lūṭ represents the fitna of a corrupt society—and the loneliness of being righteous within it.
        Noah – Fitna of time (950 years of rejection).
        Abraham – Fitna of fire (literal burning) and family (father, then son).
        Lūṭ – Fitna of society (normalized corruption, loneliness in virtue).
    
    All three share:
        The prophet is initially weak and outnumbered.
        The people mock and demand punishment.
        God saves the believers and destroys the arrogant.
        A physical sign remains (the ark, the cool fire, the ruined cities).
        
    The fitna (trial by fire)    Living in a society where evil is public, normalized, and celebrated. The prophet is a stranger.
    The response of the people    Mockery: “Bring the punishment if you are truthful.”
    The prophet’s reaction    Distress, then prayer for help.
    Divine intervention    Angels sent as both rescuers and executors.
    Separation    Believers saved; the prophet’s wife (the hypocrite) left behind.
    The sign    Physical ruins left as a permanent warning.
      
    Lūṭ’s story teaches that the fitna of a corrupt, shameless society is among the hardest trials—but God’s rescue comes precisely when the prophet can no longer bear it, and the ruins of the destroyed are left as a sign for those who use reason.
