DAY 495: Baqarah 284-286
- To Allah ˹alone˺ belongs whatever is
in the heavens and whatever is on
the earth. Whether you reveal what is in your hearts or conceal it,
Allah will call you to account for it. He forgives whoever He wills, and
punishes whoever He wills. And Allah is Most Capable of everything. The
Messenger ˹firmly˺ believes in what has been revealed to him from
his Lord, and so do the believers. They ˹all˺ believe in Allah, His
angels, His Books, and His messengers. ˹They proclaim,˺ “We make no
distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and
obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the
final return.” Allah does not require of any soul more than what it can
afford. All
good will be for its own benefit, and all evil will be to its own loss.
˹The believers pray,˺ “Our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or make a
mistake. Our Lord! Do not place a burden on us like the one you placed
on those before us. Our Lord! Do not burden us with what we cannot bear.
Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our ˹only˺
Guardian. So grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”
(
284 To Allah belongs everything — He will account for what is hidden and shown. He forgives whom He wills, punishes whom He wills. You cannot hide from God. Every secret thought will be accounted. But His mercy is vast.
285 The Prophet and believers believe in Allah, angels, books, messengers — making no distinction. They say: "We hear and obey. Grant us forgiveness. To You is the return." Faith is submission — not full understanding. "We hear and obey" is the believer's motto.
286 (promise) Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. Your test was calibrated for you. You can bear it.
286 (responsibility) For it is what it earned — against it is what it earned. No one carries another's sin. You are responsible for you.
286 (prayer 1) Do not take us to account for forgetting or making mistakes. Honest mistakes are forgiven.
286 (prayer 2) Do not lay on us a burden like those before us. Islam is ease, not hardship.
286 (prayer 3) Do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Ask for what He already promised — humility.
286 (final plea) Pardon us, forgive us, have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Give us victory. After asking for mercy, ask for victory for truth.
To Allah belongs everything — He will account for what you hide and what you show; the Messenger and the believers say "We hear and obey," making no distinction between any of His messengers; and Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity — so ask for pardon, forgiveness, mercy, and victory, for He is your Protector and to Him is the final return.
