• DAY 498: Anfal 20-28

  •  O believers! Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not turn away from him while you hear ˹his call˺. Do not be like those who say, “We hear,” but in fact they are not listening. Indeed, the worst of all beings in the sight of Allah are the ˹wilfully˺ deaf and dumb, who do not understand. Had Allah found any goodness in them, He would have certainly made them hear. ˹But˺ even if He had made them hear, they would have surely turned away heedlessly. O believers! Respond to Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah stands between a person and their heart, and that to Him you will all be gathered. Beware of a trial that will not only affect the wrongdoers among you. And know that Allah is severe in punishment. Remember when you had been vastly outnumbered and oppressed in the land, constantly in fear of attacks by your enemy, then He sheltered you, strengthened you with His help, and provided you with good things so perhaps you would be thankful. O believers! Do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor betray your trusts knowingly. And know that your wealth and your children are only a test and that with Allah is a great reward.

    After establishing that Anfal (the entire outcome of battle) belongs to Allah and the Messenger, and after reminding the believers of Badr as proof of divine help, Allah now gives commands, warnings, and psychological insights to protect the Muslim community from internal collapse.
    20–21    Obedience without turning away    Don't just say "we hear" – actually obey.
    22–23    Deaf and dumb disbelievers    The worst are those who hear truth but refuse to reason and submit.
    24    Respond to the life-giving call    Allah controls hearts. Respond to the Prophet before it's too late.
    25    General fitnah    Punishment can strike everyone when sin spreads.
    26    Remember past weakness    Gratitude for shelter, victory, provision.
    27    No betrayal    Don't betray Allah, the Prophet, or your trusts knowingly.
    28    Wealth and children are a test    Don't let love of them lead you to betray Allah.
    
    v1–19 – Badr victory: Spoils belong to Allah and Prophet. True believers obey, don't flee. God kills, not you.
    v20–28 – Post-victory commands: Obey without turning away. Don't be like hypocrites. Respond to the call that gives life. Fear collective punishment. Remember your weakness before Islam. Don't betray trusts. Your wealth and children are a test.
    
     Victory doesn't mean you can now relax into arrogance, hypocrisy, or betrayal. Victory is a test. Your wealth, children, and even your own heart are in Allah's control. So respond, obey, and fear betrayal.
