DAY 499: Anfal 29-37
- O believers! If you are mindful of
Allah, He will grant you a decisive
authority, absolve you of your sins, and forgive you. And Allah is the
Lord of infinite bounty. And ˹remember, O Prophet,˺ when the
disbelievers conspired to capture,
kill, or exile you. They planned, but Allah also planned. And Allah is
the best of planners. Whenever Our revelations are recited to them, they
challenge ˹you˺, “We
have already heard ˹the recitation˺. If we wanted, we could have easily
produced something similar. This ˹Quran˺ is nothing but ancient
fables!” And ˹remember˺ when they prayed, “O Allah! If this is indeed
the truth
from You, then rain down stones upon us from the sky or overcome us with
a painful punishment.” But Allah would never punish them while you ˹O
Prophet˺ were in their
midst. Nor would He ever punish them if they prayed for forgiveness. And
why should Allah not punish them while they hinder pilgrims from the
Sacred Mosque, claiming to be its rightful guardians? None has the
right to guardianship except those mindful ˹of Allah˺, but most pagans
do not know. Their prayer at the Sacred House was nothing but whistling
and clapping. So taste the punishment for your disbelief. Surely the
disbelievers spend their wealth to hinder others from the
Path of Allah. They will continue to spend to the point of regret. Then
they will be defeated and the disbelievers will be driven into Hell, so
Allah may separate the evil from the good. He will pile up the evil
ones all together and then cast them into Hell. They are the ˹true˺
losers.
(
These verses follow directly from the commands and warnings of verses 20–28. After warning about obedience, not betraying trusts, and the trial of wealth and children, Allah now gives hope, a criterion for right and wrong, and a sobering look at the rejection of the disbelievers.
v20–28 – Commands: Obey, don't turn away, don't betray trusts, wealth and children are a test.
v29 – The solution: Taqwa brings furqan, forgiveness, and great bounty.
v30–37 – Case study of the Quraysh: They plotted, but Allah outplotted. They heard the Quran and mocked it. They challenged punishment but were shielded by the Prophet's presence. After the Prophet left, punishment became due. Their worship was empty. Their wealth bought them regret. They will be heaped into Hell.
29 Taqwa brings Furqan Fear Allah, and He gives you the light to see right from wrong, erases your sins, and forgives you.
30 The Makkah plot The disbelievers planned to kill the Prophet, but Allah outplanned them. Allah is the best of planners.
31 Disbelievers' excuse They heard the Quran but called it "legends of the ancients" out of arrogance.
32–33 Delay of punishment Allah did not destroy them because the Prophet was among them and there were those seeking forgiveness.
34 No more shield After Hijra, the protection is gone. They bar people from the Ka'bah yet are not its true guardians.
35 Their empty worship Their "prayer" was whistling and clapping – not submission.
36 Wealth spent to block Islam They spend wealth to oppose Allah, but it becomes regret, then defeat, then Hell.
37 Separation and heap Allah separates wicked from good, then heaps the wicked into Hell. They are the losers.
Taqwa gives you the light to see truth from falsehood, protects you from the fate of the disbelievers who plotted, spent wealth arrogantly, and will be heaped into Hell as the true losers.
